Stormforce 10

   Sunday, January 22, 2012
The Camborne rain shadow took effect once more as the eye of the howling gales and squalls covering all of Cornwall, settled over the Redruth area insuring close to perfect, breezy conditions, for the record 545 who tackled the 10 mile Cornish Grand Prix curtain raiser. 17 Harriers, the same amount as last year, turned up, although only 4 ladies meaning that the ladies didn't turn out a full team for the race (needing 6) and will be hard pushed to defend last years third place if this continues.

First home for the Harriers in 20th place overall with a splendid PB was James Stevens in 1.00.38 and it can't belong before he ducks under the hour mark. (in other words this would mean every mile being under a breathtaking 6 minute miling pace). Also having an excellent day was Liam Gallantry in 39th place in 1.03.47, a near five minute pb for Liam, which makes him an early contender for next years star awards best improver. And in case you'd thought Mark Andrews had stopped improving and reached his peak... look again, Mark won his new vet 55-59 category with a new three minute PB in 1.05.38. Revis Crowle was next home 6th lady overall and also the only other prize winner for the Harriers on the day, scooping the vet 45-49 age category in a very good 1.07.16. Next abroad the pb time was Chris Ullman with a one and half minute pb in 1.07.23, left just wondering what everyone else in front had eaten for breakfast. Ian Crowle was next in 1.09.29,just managing to hold off Clive Shute who was another PB'er in 1.09.31. Adam Purvis had a tough run in 1.10.59. Andrew Berry was next in 1.13.31 (another pb?), Lydia Collins set a new pb by a minute in 1.13.43, and Simon Webber I'm pretty sure had a pb also in 1.13.59.

Rob Pick was next, fighting off his dodgy knees for 1.17.08 and Andrew Sims seemed to have picked up the same infection, struggling with his knees for 1.20.45. Rupert Warwick was just behind in 1.20.48. Ian Ringer set himself a target of under 1.25 and managed an excellent 1.22.36, Tess Mason was next in 1.23.42 and rounding up the Harriers was Karen Sims in 1.31.25.
